ASSISI CELEBRATES PATRIOTIC GRANDEUR
With patriotic fervour, grandeur, and enthusiasm, St. Francis of Assisi School, Chikodi, celebrated the 80th Independence Day on 15 August 2026. The programme commenced at 8:15 a.m. with a traditional Arati offered to the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. The dignitaries were then escorted to the dais by the school band, accompanied by the ceremonial showering of flower petals.
The celebration began on a spiritual and patriotic note with a beautiful Patriotic Prayer Dance. This was followed by a Photo Pooja in honour of the great personalities of independent India, Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The patriotic spirit was further heightened as the entire gathering sang Vande Mataram in unison. Thereafter, the Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Gerald J. D’Silva, Education Secretary of the Belgaum Diocese, hoisted the National Flag. The gathering then sang the National Anthem with pride and solemnity, followed by the flag salute. A well-coordinated March Past by the students representing the four houses—William Shakespeare, William Wordsworth, Robert Frost, and John Keats—was a highlight of the celebration. The march displayed remarkable discipline, coordination, and a deep sense of pride and patriotism.
Rev. Fr. Jeson Fernandez, Principal of the school, introduced the dignitaries and extended a warm welcome to the gathering. The Guest of Honour, Rev. Fr. Ronson Mendonca, reminded everyone to give the nation the highest priority rather than pursuing selfish interests. Rev. Sr. Fincy Joseph emphasised that success and greatness can be achieved only through selfless service and sacrifice. The Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Gerald J. D’Silva, urged everyone to ensure that their actions and responsibilities contribute towards building a better and stronger India. During the ceremony, the Chief Guest honoured and felicitated State-Level Sports achievers, National-Level Swachh Bharat Competition winners, and Master Parth Chinchini, who secured an outstanding 98.20% in the ICSE Examination 2026. Their achievements were applauded by the entire gathering.
The formal ceremony was followed by a spectacular cultural programme presented by students from Nursery to Class X. The performances were truly breathtaking and reflected the students’ love for the nation and their patriotic spirit. Through vibrant dances, melodious songs, and meaningful skits, the students conveyed powerful messages of patriotism, unity, and love for the country. The audience greatly appreciated the students’ stupendous and fabulous performances. The memorable celebration concluded with the distribution of sweets, sponsored by the school and Mr. Harsh Yarandole, an alumnus of the school, to all those gathered.
