Practice Yoga, Embrace Healthy Ageing
St. Francis of Assisi School, Chikodi, celebrated International Yoga Day on 20 June 2026 with great enthusiasm and a renewed commitment to incorporating yoga into daily life. The spirit of this ancient practice, handed down by the sages of India, brought together students and staff at 8:00 a.m. on the Assisi campus to pay tribute to its timeless values.
The celebration commenced with a prayer dance, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries on the dais. The programme was graced by Yoga Acharya and university faculty member Dr. Mahananda Mahendrapal, Principal Fr. Jeson Fernandes, Vice Principal Fr. Stanis Lopes, staff representative Ms. Flavia Fernandes, and the School Pupil Leader, Master Soham Gouraj. The Chief Guest, Dr. Mahananda Mahendrapal, who holds a Ph.D. in Yoga, gave a clarion call to students and teachers to practise yoga every morning for a healthy and balanced life. In his address, Vice Principal Fr. Stanis Lopes highlighted the theme of the year, โYoga for Healthy Ageing,โ and emphasized that yoga promotes longevity, an active lifestyle, and mental well-being across all generations.
Following the stage programme, a yoga session was conducted in which students and teachers actively participated in various yoga postures, stretching exercises, and breathing techniques. The campus was filled with a sense of peace, calmness, and mindfulness as everyone embraced the spirit of yoga. The celebration concluded on a positive note, inspiring all present to adopt yoga as a way of life and to work towards a healthier body, mind, and soul.
